ABOUT

Scott Thompson was born in 1973 in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from Samford University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art.

He later graduated from San Francisco’s Academy of Art in 2011 with an MFA in studio art.

Thompson was always interested in art as a child, whether drawing at home or in elementary school.  Once he discovered western art, originating in the Southwest of the United States, he was hooked for a lifetime and discovered his true love of painting.

Not only did he gravitate towards the western genre of art, but he also gained an appreciation for the texture and feel of paint as his work progressed. Painting has been a large part of his life for the last thirty years. Thompson expresses his love of painting through landscapes, horses, cattle and wildlife. He has a strong appreciation for the shapes, colors and transitioning light seen in nature.  Capturing the ever changing atmosphere and the challenge it presents to an artist fascinates him.

Thompson feels that practice and repetition with one’s drawing and painting are two of the most important factors in becoming a quality artist. These are the values which guide his painting philosophy.
